The National City Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce the participation of the famed, Mariachi Ángeles of Pepe Martinez Jr., during the 8th Annual International Mariachi Festival at Bayside Park in Chula Vista on Saturday, March 8th from 11:00AM until 7:00PM.

Mariachi Ángeles of Pepe Martinez Jr.
For more than 30 years, Jose “Pepe” Martinez Junior has lived on-stage inspired by the gift of music introduced to him as a young boy. His biggest teacher and mentor was his father, most affectionately known as “Don Pepe”, who institutionalized mariachi music and led Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán to international stardom, over his 40 years of musical direction. Pepe Jr. is committed to making sure the next generation of mariachi musicians receive the highest quality and most authentic instruction possible. His mariachi ensemble will be serving as official judges of the middle school, high school, and college mariachi student competition. With over 25 years as a leading member of Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán, Pepe Jr. now brings his experience, professionalism and leadership to this year’s festival.

Presented by the Port of San Diego’s Tidelands Activation Program and the National City Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with the City of Chula Vista, the festival celebrates the San Diego area’s widespread Mexican heritage through Mariachi music, traditional ballet folkloric dancing and a series of efforts highlighting arts, culture and culinary contributions. The family-friendly festival spotlights mariachi musicians from across the United States and Mexico, as well as young student mariachi groups.

“The International Mariachi Festival unites community on both sides of the US-Mexico border through arts, culture, and education,”
said Jacqueline Reynoso, President and CEO of the National City Chamber of Commerce.
“This event has become a South Bay tradition that stimulates our binational economy through tourism and commerce, while promoting our rich diversity, entrepreneurial spirit, and strong ties to Mexican charro music."

In addition to live entertainment with full schedules at both the Main and Port Stages, the International Mariachi Festival will have an onsite Family Pavilion, complete with face painting, caricaturist, live street art, Wow Factor Attractions, a Mayan Maze, petting zoo, pony rides, arts & crafts, and so much more! Also, over 80 local artisan and retail vendor booths and more than 16 food vendors will set up onsite, providing plenty of opportunity for shopping and eating, while the Estrella Jalisco Beer Garden serves as an additional attraction for adults. The expanded VIP lounge offers bayfront views and stage front seating! Guests will enjoy a fantastic fashion show featuring mexican designers presented by LBM Talent Academy and returning this year, the escaramuza, an all-female sport within charrería—the Mexican equivalent of rodeo—combining strength with beauty. Also, don’t miss the Xolo’s cheerleaders and the Xolo Mayor mascot!
