IMPORTANT CLOTHES DRIVE TO BE HOSTED DURING RUN OF RODGERS + HAMMERSTEIN’S CINDERELLA

Organizations pair up for a great and moving cause

The year 2015 brought the ‘ray of sunshine’ much needed for Anika Ortiz, aged 12, and her family. The life changing event of losing her sister Alejandra to domestic violence had taken the color out of their world. Anika and her mother began to think of the hundreds of other families that have to live with the pain of losing a loved one. Anika’s Pink Closet was created in her bedroom and became a pop-up boutique created to bring awareness to domestic violence.

Her boutique opened at the Mariposa Women & Family Center. Anika sold used clothing, accessories, toys and other goods for girls, in which ten percent of her proceeds were given back to the center, helping low-income women and families with depression, anxiety, substance abuse, domestic violence and other issues. Later that year, Anika’s fabulous concept was recognized as she was presented with the Youth Award on National Philanthropy Day. She has also been named one of the ‘100 Most Influential People’ in Orange County. Since then, Anika has started teaching monthly classes with topics such as friendship, bullying, building self-esteem and how to be the best version of yourself! With the support of different organizations such as Segerstrom Center for the Arts, Anika has been privileged to share her boutique experience and healing journey through fashion. SEGERSTROM CENTER FOR THE ARTS AND ANIKA’S PINK CLOSET HOST A CLOTHING DRIVE THROUGHOUT THE RUN OF RODGERS + HAMMERSTEIN’S CINDERELLA
FREE LOBBY ACTIVITIES ALSO ANNOUNCED
April 19 – May 1, 2016

Segerstrom Center for the Arts and Anika’s Pink Closet are pleased to announce a clothing drive that will take place during the run of the Tony Award®-winning Broadway musical Rodgers + Hammerstein's CINDERELLA from April 19 – May 1. Guests are encouraged to bring gently used clothing to the theater where the team from Anika’s Pink Closet will be on hand to collect the generous donations. These donated items will be distributed to foster homes and child abuse prevention centers throughout Orange County. All clothing items will be gratefully accepted, however girls and children’s clothing are needed in particular. Those who donate will receive a small token of appreciation for their support of Anika’s Pink Closet (while supplies last!). On opening night, Anika and her mom will be on-site to help collect items. The Center kindly asks that donations be brought in a clear plastic bag. As a general safety precaution for all guests, security team members may request to see the contents of the bag(s) prior to entry. After entry, guest services team members will be able to guide patrons to the donation booth located on the Plaza Level.
Guests will be sure to have a ball as enchantment awaits throughout the lobbies of Segerstrom Hall with fun-filled activities, art displays and the return of the popular photo opportunity. Activities are open to ticketholders and take place one hour prior to show time and during intermission.
  • Make a grand entrance and have your photo taken at the ball (actually, more like Orchestra Terrace level) complete with fairytale props and accessories.
  • It’s Possible – Share your hopes and dreams on our communal art display located on Orchestra level.
