The Studio Door knows firsthand the challenge our arts community is facing as it struggles through the impact of COVID-19. We applaud The City of San Diego’s funding campaign The San Diego Arts + Culture Challenge. With the support of noted American Artist Hyacinthe Baron, The Studio Door is stepping up to meet the challenge and raise funds through a special Art + Culture Art Auction, which will be held on-line on May 1 & 2, 2020. The Auction will exclusively take place on the Facebook platform.
American Master fine artist Hyacinthe Baron has donated two works of art for this event to help The City’s effort as well as support the gallery, which is facing its own challenges during this pandemic. Local artists are also stepping up with their own contributions to support the auction. Ten works of fine art will be auctioned in this first effort. If the community responds positively this effort then additional auctions will follow through the next few months.
50% of the proceeds will be given to San Diego’s Arts & Culture Challenge; 30% will directly supporting participating artists; and 20% will go to help The Studio Door keep its storefront open to the public.
For over six years, The Studio Door has stood as an independent in San Diego's commercial art industry. Working as a small business, leading by example, the gallery had encouraged and assisted thousands of artists to engage in creative commerce. Before COVID-19, over 100 artists utilize our storefront to generate sales income through working studios, exhibition & sales, professional development, artist-lead workshops and additional programming.
At 12 noon of Friday, May 1, 2020, the silent auction will open exclusively on Facebook in The Studio Door’s event page for the Art + Culture Art Auction. The auction will run through Saturday, May 2, 2020, ending at 6 pm sharp. All items will include incremental bids and a “Buy It Now” feature.
