The Thought of THE WEEK

Sharing a shortlist of the content we saw, local stores to support, and so on...
June 26, 2020.

This week I watched a couple of documentaries and a comedy special that I was surprised and happy with.
Here we go:

Netflix:
  • Jokoy´s "In his Elements" where he takes Netflix to the Philipines, showcasing local music, comedy, and food. Also bringing back artists that have made it in the US, back to the motherland. I highly recommend it.
  • The Taco Chronicles. This one is in Spanish with subtitles in English. Being Mexican, I cried watching this. A seven or so episode docuseries about different types of tacos, the regions they come from, and how they came about. It recently won a James Beard Media Award. We wrote a post about it in Español aquí.
Hulu:
  • Ulam by Alexandra Cuerdo. Here we learn about young Filipino American chefs that are thriving and pushing the Filipino food narrative through traditional recipes and modern spins. I LOVED THIS!
  • Ramen Heads. It is in Japanese with subtitles in English. Showing us the ramen gurus in Japan. All the superb places where you can have different types of noodles. The techniques and dedication each chef puts into it and coming together to celebrate a very special anniversary with an original recipe that will debut just for the special occasion.

The local coffee shop we went to:
  • Le Coffee Shop in Temecula. SOOOO GOOD! our server was a little grumpy but the food made up for it! they have outdoor and indoor seating, about 8 tables total, so they fill up quick! if you are up for a drive and yummy brunch, I recommend checking them out!

The cause of the week:
  • Build Ramps, not Walls. A wonderful project that funds skating ramps to bring communities together instead of segregating them with -infamous- walls.
We watched a short about them this week as well and that is how we got the info. You can watch it HERE until July 9.
